Being a watch company based in Canada, the Government Search and Rescue Diver's Automatic (GSAR) in Grey Maple markings is a special edition of the Search and Rescue Diver's collection that presents a dial marked with a maple emblem representing Marathon’s Canadian roots. The GSAR is a dive watch built to ISO 6425 standards. Designed for use by Search and Rescue divers, and issued to the US Marine Corps, the GSAR is a watch built to withstand the most extreme of conditions.
Marathon is also best known for using perpetually and autonomously glowing Tritium gas tubes to illuminate the dials. The GSAR uses Tritium on each hour marker and hand. Tritium is a trusted source of illumination for military equipment, from watches to aeronautical displays, firearm sights, and binoculars. Tritium tubes glow on their own without the need for charging by an external light source, and will not fade in brightness making it an ideal configuration for nighttime or low light operation.
