The Marathon USMC version of the Pilot's Navigator watch is officially licensed by the United States Marine Corps. The United States Marine Corps insignia is featured prominently on the dial and the case back is engraved with “US Marine Corps” and “Semper Fidelis” - the motto of the US Marine Corps, meaning "always faithful".
The Pilot's Navigator was first developed by Marathon in 1986 for the Kelly Air Force Base based in the US. Designed for pilots, parachutists, and law enforcement, this watch is built to strict military specifications to withstand extreme changes in pressure and altitude, as well as an easy to read timepiece for a pilot.
Marathon is also best known for using perpetually and autonomously glowing Tritium gas tubes to illuminate the dials. The Pilot's Navigator uses Tritium on each hour marker and hand. Tritium is a trusted source of illumination for military equipment, from watches to aeronautical displays, firearm sights, and binoculars. Tritium tubes glow on their own without the need for charging by an external light source, and will not fade in brightness making it an ideal configuration for nighttime or low light operation.
